(1) Origin
Konkokyo was established in 1859, based on one farmer’s way of life. All of the Konkokyo ministers (religious people) follow his way in the churches and in our daily lives.
(2) Our main religious service is the mediation between you and Deity.
Based on one-on-one dialogue between you and us (a minister), we assist you in getting over hardship or fulfilling better life by listening to you, praying for your troubles or requests together, then our relaying them to Deity, and providing you with any teaching or guidance to your issues so that Deity could work for you.
What we mean by “so that Deity could work for you” is firstly that, based on the founder’s experience, Deity could particularly respond to your sincere mindset to Deity and/or people around you. “Sincerity” in this context is that because Deity has already provided us with anything that raises your life; the Sun, the Moon, air, water, foods, the regulated internal organs function of our body, it is sincere attitude that you realize them and appreciate all blessings first and foremost. Based on his and our experiences, Deity hardly activates under your state of full dissatisfaction and discontent. We regard the working of your organs in your body as Deity’s. Don’t forget your organs even now function and make you alive.
When you look at a glass of water filled 50% in hard times, you would lament that “the water in the glass is no more than half” and feel anxious about the future, but when you realize through the prayers and the mediation that “there is still no less than half, your heart may be eased. This change of your mind could have strong impact on Deity, and become the trigger for things to improve.
Secondly, Deity loves all humans equally and wishes the peace of the world, and therefore activates when your wishes are based on the harmony with the person involved with you. Ex. when you wish the problem to be solved, your prayers is advisedly to be “Give me the idea how I behave” instead of “Change his/her attitude to me.”

〇 The number of ministers: 1,738 males and 1,723 females, overall 3,461 (as of December 31, 2021). ← Konkokyo is totally equal in genders.
〇 The number of churches: 1,455 in Japan, and 29 overseas.
〇 Nearly all of the Japanese churches are established based on a voluntary basis by individual, not by the headquarters, and operated by one family without other people.
